Larry McKenna, a Pinot Pioneer | The Real Review

With International Pinot Noir Day around the corner, we can't celebrate without mentioning Larry McKenna, 'The Prince of Pinot'. 

Larry has firmly established himself as a leading winemaker in these parts and is particularly renowned and respected as one of New Zealand’s pre-eminent Pinot Noir winemaker.

Escarpment would certainly not be where it is today without the leadership of Larry McKenna and we're not the only ones to think so. Bob Campbell, MW writes in a recent article for The Real Review:

"My view of Larry McKenna forever changed when he addressed a group of MWs during a Master of Wine tour to New Zealand in 2005. He had the audience in the palm of his hand, particularly the late Robin Don MW who suddenly said, to no one in particular,
“Extraordinary! Extraordinary! The fellow looks more like a nightclub bouncer than a winemaker.”
