One of the world’s foremost Pinot Noir commentator’s Allen Meadows has recently reviewed 221 NZ Pinot noirs from 111 producers in his Issue 64 October 2016 of Burghound.

Allen spends around 6 months of each year in Burgundy and primarily reviews wine from that region. Over the last 5 years he has started to review New World Pinot Noirs as well, with this being only his second complete review of NZ, despite visiting here regularly

Escarpment is extremely proud of its achievements in this world class tasting

The 5 2014 Escarpment Pinot noirs were submitted with the following results

  • 2014 Escarpment Pinot Noir         91 points
  • 2014 Pahi Pinot Noir                      92 points
  • 2014 Kiwa Pinot Noir                     93 points
  • 2014 Te Rehua Pinot Noir             92 points
  • 2014 Kupe Pinot Noir                    90 points

Only 2 other wines rated at 93 points, Rippon Emma’s Block 2012 and Kim Crawford Rise and Shine 2014, the highest 3 wines in the tasting.

For all our 2014’s to get 90 or more points is an exceptional achievement

Martinborough is currently enjoying an exceptional Spring with no frosts and little wind so the vines are responding beautifully.

All looking good for another excellent year here in the Wairarapa
